A to Z Challenge: Serenity...The Secret I've been keeping

After yesterday's revelation about the height of my geek-dom.  I have to say that I'm about to reveal a pretty dark secret that some will say means my geek card should be downgraded, at least.

Serenity, or better yet, Firefly, is the only TV show by Joss Whedon I like.

I know, I know.  I should be all over Buffy, but I find all the characters annoying.

Angel, well, I have to admit I didn't give it much of a try after Buffy.

Dollhouse should have me intrigued, but I was never able to get into the plot line.

That's right, I apparently only like it when Joss and the dreamy Nathan Fillion work together (I love Dr. Horrible, with a passion that comes from deep within).

And it's with this revelation that I have to say, I'm kinda worried about the upcoming Avengers movie.

So, what do you guys think?  Am I crazy?  What's the draw for those shows for you, or do you feel the way I do?

Blogger ate my comments last time. :(

I liked Buffy from the very start, partly because I was on an Urban Fantasy gaming-type kick at the time, so I was looking forward to seeing all of these creepies on the big screen. The characters also resonated for me, and I really like Joss' witty style of dialog.

I didn't really watch Firefly until it was out on DVD, to my shame, because it really is some of Joss' best work, but I was on a Joss overload at that point with Buffy and Angel. Maybe if people like me had given it a chance when it was on Fox, we'd have gotten at least four seasons.

I'm looking forward to the Avengers movie, but I don't really have high hopes invested in it. That way, I can be pleasantly surprised.

I'm starting up a 'Critiquing Crusaders' program, where participants in the Second Crusade can find other writers to exchange critiques with or form critiquing circles. If you're interested, come by The Kelworth Files to check it out!

Firefly is the only show of his I liked! The best thing he ever created - cancelled after a short one season stint. So wrong!

Personally I just don't see the lore of Buffy. The characters never really grow over the course of the show. The banter just isn't that witty. The villains just aren't that villainous.

I'm not sure how I struggled through 9 seasons of it...

Oh yeah...I wasn't actually paying attention to it.

I must disagree, I loved Buffy - I mean, a 3 inch tall Fear Demon?!? Classic! - and I loved Angel even more, although the last season and especially Cordelia's demise was a bit disappointing. That said, I was pretty happy with the way Angel ended - with some serious drama, and a major cliffhanger.

I haven't seen Dollhouse.

I did love Firefly and Serenity though ;) MAJOR BIG TIME!

At first your "S" title made me really happy, then I read the entry. Whedon is a wonder, a wonder that fulfills all fantastical whitical dreams in realmworld! I do however condone you for your bold entry! I was a bit weary of the Whedon- Avengers film but I think he can do it. He's great at ensemble wit and banter (which he implemented when creating the Buffy tv series, I think the Buffy feature film lacked because the campy ensemble was nonexistent.)
What do you think of the new Buffy reboot without Whedon?
Cheers

I suppose every geek is still allowed to their own opinion :P

I haven't seen Angel, mostly because I rarely like spinoffs... but I LOVED LOVED LOVED Buffy and Dollhouse. Dollhouse moreso than Buffy. and of course Firefly topped them all.

I suppose for me it has a lot to do with his wit (and my love of Eliza Dushku)

Firefly is definitely his best and I love Dr. Horrible too.
