Wannabe Writer Wednesday #2

Before I dive into my self-exploration as a writer, I wanted to introduce you to the new layout. I've made some changes (mostly trying to clean up and simplify the look of the page). It's basically the same except for a couple of things, I've shortened the archive section since I tend to have such long titles. You'll find it under "My Past Glories."

I've also consolidated all of my favorite blogs into one page. If you click on "Check Out the Cool Kids" at the top of the page, you'll get one big categorized list of the blogs I'm following. If you know I follow you, check out the list and make sure you're on it (I had to do the list manually and mistakes may have been made). I'm adding to the Wannabe Writer list as I work through the weeks, so with new additions to the meme, there will be new additions to my list.

Hope you enjoy the new layout, feel free to leave any comments about it!

Wannabe Writer Wednesday #2

Where I am in the writing process: I'm pretty excited about where I am right now.  I have seven articles up with Associated Content.  I know some people would argue it's not really being "published," but I don't really care. My name's out there, and I have close to 200 views now.  I'm also 56 pages into my screenplay.  I'm really enjoying the process and am excited to be past the halfway mark.  I am worried about finishing in time, but hopefully I'll be able to do it.

Question of the day:  As I've been working on my screenplay, I've been struggling with what sounds natural vs. a first time screenplay writer's version of natural.  I use contractions and slang to make it seem less stilted, but I'm not sure about the one-liners, etc.  What do you do to make your characters' dialogue not seem so contrived?  Do you worry about the fact that conversations you write would never really happen in the real world, or do you just go with it?

Thanks for the future input.  Don't forget to check out the meme and follow it at Confessions of the Un-Published.

I absolutely love the new look! You have been busy...congrats on signing up for the 100 pages in 30 days. It's a good way to get motivated.

Thanks! I can be a bit OCD with things like layouts, so I'm glad it worked this time.

I really like having someone else set the deadline, it helps keep up the tension. Hopefully I'll get it done.
