Taking Liberty-3WW Serial

Thanks to the crew at 3WW, I started writing what I think could turn into something pretty interesting.

Taking Liberty is a serial that I update every week (usually, that is), using the words from 3WW.

It's writing in it's purest form: by the seat of my pants.  Let's see where this goes!

Below you'll find links to all of the parts.  Scroll down for a summary of each part, just in case you need a reminder or you want to skip to the current section.

Summary: Spoilers ahead!

Part One
A brief character sketch of Liberty.  She's a lonely, but highly imaginative girl.  For some reason she seems to be shunned by those around her.

Part Two
We're introduced to our narrator, who is the opposite of Liberty.  She's beautiful and popular. She warns us that this isn't the type of story we're expecting.  One of an underdog triumph to get the quarterback.

Part Three
Elizabeth (our narrator) and her friend Dena are on their way to a science field trip.  Elizabeth notices Liberty eavesdropping, but doesn't mind.  Shortly after the bus unloads and everyone gets started on the assignment, James, the quarterback starts stripping down.  Elizabeth thinks it's a stunt, but then someone points out that there's a body in the water.  It's Liberty.

Part Four
James starts to pull Liberty to the shore.  Elizabeth is so tense in the moment that she breaks a specimen jar and cuts herself.  She starts to feel weak.  Elizabeth watches as Liberty turns her head and asks for help.  Elizabeth faints and comes to as the paramedics put Liberty into a body bag.

Part Five
Elizabeth is reeling from watching Liberty drown.  She notices that this grief is different from what she's experienced before: she's blacking out.  Elizabeth finds herself at the funeral of Liberty, and when trying to comfort Dena, she feels for the first time something waiting to take over.

Part Six
Elizabeth and the force "meet" for the first time.  As Elizabeth fights for control of her body, she realizes that what is inside of her is actually Liberty.

Part Seven
Elizabeth and Liberty's bond grows stronger, as they watch in disgust as two boys make a mockery of the funeral.  Elizabeth decides it's time to make the boys stop.

Part Eight
Even though she's not sure how to do it, Elizabeth/Liberty stand up to make the boys stop disrupting the funeral.  Before they can, James, the boy who saved Liberty, kicks them out.

Part Nine
After the funeral, Liberty insists on seeing her mother, who was strangely absent from the proceedings.  They drive to the small, scrubby trailer.  Liberty's obviously drunken mother is elated and welcomes Liberty back home.

Part Ten
Elizabeth tries to explain that she's not Liberty, but just a friend.  Liberty's mother says she can recognize her daughter and knows she's in there with Elizabeth.  Elizabeth then blacks out and wakes up to see the ghostly form of Liberty floating around the room.  The two are joined again, and Elizabeth sees the mother on the ground, surrounded in blood.

Part Eleven
Elizabeth in her panic wants to call the police.  Liberty points out that Elizabeth is the one that is covered in blood and was holding the murder weapon.  Elizabeth, in a state of shock, follows Liberty's order to leave and dump the murder weapon.

Part Twelve
After the murder, Liberty recedes into Elizabeth's consciousness.  Even though she should be happy about it, Elizabeth is struggling with headaches and sleepless nights. In science class, she's sent to the nurse, and after being tripped by a classmate, James comes to the rescue and volunteers to take her.

Part Thirteen
Elizabeth fades out and wakes up in the nurses office, where she reluctantly asks her (with help by a very vocal James) into the examination room.

Part Fourteen
The nurse insists that Elizabeth tell her what pills she took that morning. Elizabeth is confused but says she didn't take anything. The nurse kicks her out of the office, warning her to call 911 if she feels she's going to black out. James is still waiting for her, and asks if she wants to ditch classes.

Part Fifteen
Elizabeth notices that James is acting a bit strange.  He drives her to a fancy restaurant, and she finally asks why he's being so nice.  He seems upset that what they did the night of Liberty's funeral didn't mean anything.  Liberty wrests control and takes over, reassuring James that it meant something to her.

Part Sixteen
Elizabeth is floating around in her subconscious only barely aware of what Liberty is doing.  Suddenly she's pulled to the front and wakes up in her bed.  Then she realizes that she's in bed naked with a sleeping James.  Liberty's leaves control to her saying that cuddling isn't her scene.

Part Seventeen
Elizabeth doesn't mind cuddling with James at first, until it really starts to sink in that Liberty had sex with him using her body.  She hides in the bathroom, trying to decide what to do.  When James wakes up and comes to find her, she brushes him off and he storms out of the house.

Part Eighteen
Elizabeth and Liberty fight about sharing Elizabeth's body.  Elizabeth is surprised when James turns back up at her house.  He apologizes, making a remark that she's like two different people.

Part Nineteen
Elizabeth feels on the verge of telling James the truth, when suddenly, Liberty takes over her body, making her collapse in complete pain.  Liberty has now found a new way to control Elizabeth.

Part Twenty
After Liberty releases Elizabeth, things haven't quite gotten back to normal.  James says there's something wrong, and when Elizabeth looks in the mirror, she sees a brown haired and brown eyed version of herself.

Part Twenty-One
Elizabeth gains a bit of control and is even able to gain a moment's peace by secluding Liberty in a remote part of her mind.  Her hair and eyes go back to normal.  But now, James wants to know the full story.

Part Twenty-Two
James and Liberty were friends at day care.  After her dad left, Liberty changed a lot.  Elizabeth finally says that Liberty got inside her head that day by the lake.

Part Twenty-Three
When Elizabeth starts to tell James, Liberty reacts violently, trying to escape from her prison.  Elizabeth falls and cuts herself.  Something about the blood tugs at her memory.  Before she can remember though, she looks up to see Liberty now outside of her body.

Part Twenty-Four
Liberty's form starts to solidify.  With great effort, she's making herself real.  Elizabeth says that it can't go on, and Liberty agrees with her, telling her to look at her arm.  Elizabeth looks down and sees that she is becoming transparent.  She looks up at Liberty, who takes a step forward, making the floor beneath her creak.

Part Twenty-Five
Liberty is fascinated with the new turn of events, and Elizabeth tries to get James' attention.  Liberty breaks from her reverie and tells Elizabeth that one way or another, this ends now.

Part Twenty-Six
Elizabeth feels herself slipping away as Elizabeth bears down on her.  She turns to James for help, but he is too scared to do anything.  Elizabeth apologizes and then takes over James' body.  She clenches her fists and prepares for a fight.
