Frenzied Update and a New Favorite

I'm still running a bit behind on my Script Frenzy screenplay, but I think I can catch up.  (Ahh!  I just realized there's only 24 days left!  That doesn't sound like much.)

The pie chart to the right shows my progress.  Hopefully we'll be seeing more orange soon.

While procrastinating yesterday, I was listening to Pandora.  If you haven't been turned on to this yet, prepare to be obsessed. (See my ramblings about Pandora and other great Droid apps here.)

After seeing him in concert a couple of months ago, I created a Frank Turner station. 

One of my favorite songs by Frank is embedded below.  Keep in mind that its NSFW and a bit confusing for non-Brits like myself.  (I did a lot of googling on Thatcher after hearing this one)



God bless Pandora, because of my Frank Turner station, I got turned on to The Wind Whistles.  They're a two person Canadian folky-indie group (Think similar to The Mouldy Peaches).  I completely fell in love with "Good Friends Won't Rip You Off."



The great news?  You can download both of The Wind Whistles albums for free!  They will of course take donations, and I plan on sending one their way.

So, whenever my brilliant ;) screenplay gets made into a movie, I'm going to demand that The Wind Whistles gets to make the soundtrack.

Only 29 more days of this!

Well, I started Script Frenzy today. (They're letting people sign in until April 5th, so it's not too late if you want to join up)  I'm not sure what I expected, but it was interesting.

Here's a rough breakdown of my first day's experience:
9:03--signed in to Scripped (free online screenwriting software) and got started. Or tried to rather.
9:15--started researching what all these heading things mean!
9:20--Opened up four extra tabs to explain the formatting and camera angle thing.
9:30-9:40--stare at screen blankly.
9:40-10:07--wrote like a madman, got a couple of scenes done.
10:07-10:13--read hubby's blog, laughed and taunted him
10:14--10:25--wrote like a madman again.

All in all, I got a little over six pages done.  The pages fly on screenwriting because of all the extra space.  Here's the plot synopsis of what I've got so far:

Olivia, a young woman writer, has just moved to a new city with her boyfriend.  Her parent's aren't thrilled with her, but supportive anyway.  She used to be a teacher, and begins writing a story about her students being zombies.  (That's just the way her mind works, not my mind.) She later goes on to a job interview with the local paper.  Due to a mix-up, she was accidentally called in.  They're actually only hiring secretaries at the moment.  She leaves sad.  Then she imagines a meteor pulverizes the building, and she is the one people are begging to tell the story.

It's basically a weird mixture of Kevin Smith, Northanger Abbey, my own weird daydreams, and a lot of other stuff I haven't figured out yet.


PS--I had a dream the other night (Influenced by this season of Lost) that I slept with my hubby from another dimension.  I say it doesn't count as cheating.  The husband says it does.  What do you think?

Gearing up

Reasons to join Script Frenzy

1. It forces you to write to a deadline.
2. Broadens your comfort zone.
3. You might be good at it.
4. I'll have a writing buddy I actually know. :)

So I'm stuck on outlining the final act for my play (which is still title-less).  I know where I'm headed, just not the specific path.  It's only 8 more days, so I'm hoping I can get it worked out by then.

I'll probably be posting frantic "What do I do now!!!?!?!??!?" questions here once I get underway.

I'm sending on the concert piece to Splinter Generation.  We'll see if they like it or not.  Anyone know of any other music themed e-zines out there in case it doesn't work out?

The Gameplan

I started mapping out my script for Script Frenzy last night.  I'm going for a romantic comedy.  A pretty standard storyline inspired by Northanger Abbey.  It's basically how a girl has hit bottom and is working her way back up, but her imagination gets the best of her and puts her in some awkward situations. 

The Frenzy starts on April 1st.  To keep up, you're supposed to write 3.5 pages of script a day.  Whew!  That sounds like a lot! Before it starts, I'm going to map out a more detailed plan.  Hopefully having a goal in mind will make it easier.
